RecPro's new private label gas-strut sets are now available. These struts (also known as gas pressure springs, gas dampers, and gas pressure dampers) function similarly to comparable brands on the market and allow for 80 pounds of force per strut. Our heavy-duty gasoline struts are subjected to rigorous testing and are designed to fulfill or exceed the OEM requirements for cross-functional usage. Check out cross reference manuals to see whether these struts would be appropriate for your application.

These struts are commonly used for RV, automotive, and agricultural applications. They help to solve issues with hatches and doors closing and opening. They provide controlled movement (with definable closure and opening speeds) as well as integrated damping.

We provide superior quality, long-lasting gas struts that are not only comparable to but often surpass the top brands in the market in terms of quality and durability. They're also really simple to install on your own. If you have any confusion about how to do it, consult a vehicle expert if you have questions about installation.

*ATTENTION – We sell most of our struts in sets since manufacturers advocate replacing both gas struts (if applicable) at the same time. One strut may put excessive wear and tear on the remaining strut and lead to future failure. When installing replacement equipment on your car, use safe labor practices at all times.*

Its very important that you: Make sure to compare the current gas spring on your vehicle to the replacement one, ensuring that they match up exactly. This can be checked by looking at their part numbers. If they don't line up, do not use the proposed replacement gas spring. It is risky to use a gas spring for something it wasn't made for. Doing so could damage the vehicle or worse, injure someone.

You will need help from another person to replace the gas spring, as they will need to hold open the liftgate/hood/trunk while you work. If there are two gas springs, one is not enough to keep the application open by itself - so it's important that somebody else is there to assist and avoid any accidents.

To remove the existing gas spring: Have someone open and hold the application. Use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to lightly lift the retaining clip on top of the ball socket, then pull off the gas spring from the ball stud (refer to sketch). Be sure that another person is holding open the hood or trunk so it doesn't fall suddenly and cause damage to the vehicle or injury to individuals. Repeat the procedure on the other end. It's possible that the clip will fly off and cause harm or damage if you pull it away from the socket too far. Simply lift it enough so that the ball stud fits into the socket. Compare this gas spring to your old one for further verification. Again: both component numbers must correspond!

The replacement gas spring may now be pushed on to the ball studs with a modest hand pressure at the ball socket. No tools are required. Do not apply any tools (vise grips, tape, pliers, etc.) to the exposed black rod. Mount the gas spring in the same manner as before: do not interchange ends while mounting it. First, mount the rod end to the hood or trunk. This will enable you to rotate the tube into position for mounting onto the vehicle frame if necessary. Once you have mounted the replaced gas spring, do not remove it again except for replacement. Cycle the hood or trunk slowly to verify that it is functioning properly.
