In an RV, there are a few things that are often overlooked or taken for granted. Whether it's the water system, the electrical system, or the temperature control system, sometimes we just don't realize how good we have it until it's gone or doesn't quite work as it should. With our RV AC units, we can often notice problems and not know how to resolve them. While many of these issues should be looked at by an RV technician, there are several things that you yourself can accomplish without this assistance. To help you understand your RV AC unit better, check out our brief list of basic AC unit main pieces and parts.
- Refrigerant: Refrigerant is sometimes known as Freon® (the brand name). It is a fluid that runs the cooling and freezing aspect of the unit. It works by carrying heat from the inside of the unit to the outside, cooling down your space and creating a more convenient temperature for your RV.
- Compressor: The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, raising the temperature. This is done to push the hot air from the inside to the outside.
- Condenser coil: This part of the air conditioner is in the outside AC unit. It receives the high-temperature air and transfers it outdoors.
- Expansion valve: Before the refrigerant passes to the evaporation coils, it has to be cooled down. This is where the expansion valve comes in. It depressurized the refrigerant and cools it back down so that the cool material can enter into the AC unit and cool down your space in return.
- Evaporator coils: These are a very important part of your air conditioner. These pick up the heat from the inside of your home, ready to send it to the rest of the cycle, keeping your space cool and comfortable.
There are other parts of the AC unit such as the plenum unit, the outdoor shield, and the extender air duct that create the whole system as well. These are the pieces and parts that you are more likely to be able to fix without the assistance of an RV technician. When you are having trouble with your RV air conditioner and need a part such as these, just stop on by and check out our selection so that you can get back on the road and back to your vacation.
