RecPro has introduced its new private label gas strut sets. These struts (also known as gas pressure springs, gas dampers, and gas pressure dampers), which are comparable to those found on the market from other manufacturers, can support a maximum of 28 pounds of force per strut. Our heavy-duty gas struts are subjected to extensive testing and have been designed to meet or exceed the OEM requirements for cross-functional usage. Check out the cross-references tables to see whether these struts would work in your application.

These struts are designed for RV, automotive, and agricultural applications. They provide a controlled and measured movement (definable closure and opening speeds) with integrated damping to solve issues with hatches and doors closing and opening.

We compete with the finest brands in the business on account of quality and durability, and our gas struts are simple to put together without any assistance.

If you have questions about installation, please consult with an automotive professional.

*ATTENTION – To avoid future issues, it is recommended by manufacturers that you replace both struts at the same time - we sell ours in sets for this reason. By only replacing one strut now, you are putting extra wear and tear on the other which could lead to its failure later down the road. Always adhere to safe work practices when conducting any type of maintenance or repairs on your vehicles*

It's very important that you:

Check that the replacement gas spring is identical to the one already on the car. Compare the part numbers of both gas springs to ensure they are correct. If you use a replacement gas spring without comparing it to another, there's a chance you'll get it wrong. Each gas spring is tailored to an application and vehicle. There is danger in using a non-customized gas spring because damage can be done to the automobile and/or personal injury may occur.

Because the gas spring has to be removed from inside the application, you'll need another individual to assist you. The liftgate, hood, trunk, and/or lid (application) must be kept open as the gas spring is replaced for safety reasons. If there are two gas springs in the application, one of them does not have enough output power to keep the application opened. As a result, a second person is required to ensure your safety and avoid damage.

To remove the existing gas spring: Have someone hold open the application. Using a small screw driver with a flat blade, lift the retaining clip slightly on the top of the ball socket and then pull the gas spring off the ball stud (see sketch). Be sure to have another person holding onto or securing the hood or trunk in its open position so that it will not suddenly fall and cause damage to property or person. Repeat this step on Gas Spring(s) other end(s)/freestanding side(s). Never take the clip off of the socket, as it could become detach and create a hazard. Gently raise it enough until the socket comes off of the ball stud. Inspect this gas spring against your replacement gas spring to ensure they are identical - pay close attention to part numbers!

The new gas spring can be attached to the ball studs with a little manual force at the ball socket. Absolutely no tools should be used during this process. In addition, do not use vise grips, tape, pliers, etc, on the black rod that is now exposed. It's important to also remember to mount the gas spring in exactly the same way as original—meaning don't switch ends when mounting. The tube should not be rotated into position for mounting to the vehicle frame if required. When replacing a gas spring, do not disassemble unless absolutely necessary. To ensure proper operation, cycle the hood or trunk slowly.
