RecPro is offering new private-label gas strut sets. These struts (also known as gas pressure springs, gas dampers, and gas pressure dampers) are comparable to similar brands on the market and provide for 24 pounds of force per strut. Our heavy-duty gasoline struts are rigorously tested and built to match or exceed the OEM requirements for cross-functional usage. Check out cross reference manuals to see if these struts will fit your application.

These struts are designed for hatches, doors, and other applications that need opening and closing assistance. They provide movement control and speed to open or close your door as well as integrated damping.

Our gas struts not only compete with the finest manufacturers in terms of quality and durability but are also simple to install by yourself. If you have any queries regarding installation, speak with an automotive professional.

*ATTENTION – At our store, we mainly sell struts in sets since pair replacement is advised by manufacturers. Only changing one strut subjects excessive wear and tear on the other related strut which could cause major issues later down the line. Make sure to always practice safe work methods when substituting new parts on your automobile exteriors.

It's very important that you:

Compare the current gas spring to the replacement gas spring to ensure that they are the same. Check to see if the part numbers on the gas springs match. If you try to use the replacement gas spring and it does not match, there is a risk of damage to your car and/or personal injury.

In order to prevent injury or damage, you must have another person help hold open the liftgate, hood, trunk and/or lid as you replace the gas spring. If there are two gas springs in the application already, one does not generate enough output force to keep the opening propped up--rendering a second person necessary for this task.

To remove the existing gas spring: To remove the gas spring, have another person hold open the application while you use a small screwdriver with a flat blade to lift the retaining clip slightly on top of the ball socket. After that, pull off the gas spring from the ball stud (see sketch for details). If the hood or trunk does not fall when you open it, have a person hold it open so that it doesn't damage the car or person. Repeat this procedure on the other side. Remove only enough of the clip from the socket to allow the socket to come off of the ball stud. Compare this gas spring to your old one. Again: both part numbers must be correct!

Push the new gas spring onto the ball studs by using slight hand pressure at the ball socket. Do not use any tools, and be sure to mount it in exactly the same way as you did with the original one - that means don't switch ends when mounting. Mount the rod end first to the hood/trunk, allowing the tube to be rotated into position for mounting to the vehicle frame if necessary. After installing a new gas spring, do not dismount it except for replacement. To check that everything is in working order, cycle the hood or trunk slowly.
