An RV range can add a lot to your rig. You’re able to cook more and better accommodate multiple diets and you spend less than having to eat out for every meal. But when selecting the range for your rig, there’s some things to consider.
Range, Oven, or Cooktop?
When deciding what to put into your RV or camper, it comes down to what you intend to cook. Do you plan to make just some pots and pans recipes? Maybe you just like baking and casseroles. Or maybe you like a bit of both. When looking for the best for both, you’ll want a range that offers both a spacious cooktop and an oven. A full range gives you more flexibility in what you cook so it’s like you’re cooking at home while being on the road. RecPro offers several types of ranges for your RV for you to choose from.
RV Range Heating Source?
You may be wondering what the best power source for your new range could be. Gas, electric, or even wood-burning? They all have their pros and cons, but when it comes down to it, gas is the most beneficial. An electric range may save you on propane but if you lose power or like to boondock, then you lose out on the use of your range too. Wood-burning stoves have a lot of the same benefits as gas but you have to keep up with wood for heating and make sure you’re extremely well ventilated.
Gas powered ranges run on propane. Many have electricity for the ignitor, but gas ranges without power can easily be lit with matches or a lighter. If you are hesitant about using a gas powered stove because of safety, then worry less. Gas ranges are just as safe as those you would find in your home. And many RV’s come with a gas detector inside. If yours doesn’t, it’s a great addition to your RV even if you don’t have a gas powered stove.
Can I just buy a full size range from the hardware store?
You could. If you have the space. Most ranges that come from big box stores are going to be large since they’re meant for the space of a full size home. That’s often not the case in an RV. If you happen to have a large rig with the space to spare, you certainly could go with just a big box store range that is properly converted to run in an RV. You also need to make sure that it will fit through your door.
But for those that have smaller rigs or want to make the most of their space, a range designed specifically for an RV is definitely the way to go. These ranges are made to be powerful, but small enough to fit into your camper with ease. No struggling through the door or losing out on a bunch of counter space.
