Description

RecPro 3800 Air Conditioner Specifications. In the summertime, and air conditioner means the difference between sweating and suffering through the heat and relaxing in your favorite recliner with a cup of iced tea. If you're like most people, sweating and suffering doesn't sound like a great way to spend your vacation. Neither does listening to the whine of a loud air conditioner, though. This is a problem that many RVers run into; you turn on the air conditioner and you're greeted with a loud whine that you have to deal with if you want that precious cold air. Here at RecPro, we don't want you to have to make that sacrifice. That's why we have these quiet, power-saving, high-quality air conditioners that will take your vacationing comfort to the next level.

Why choose this model? Well, the answers are simple and numerous.

  • Melted black shroud from a competing AC.This isn't just a cheap rooftop AC unit. Unlike other models that are made of cheap plastic that has been molded to shape around the unit, these are made from high-quality, tough plastic built to withstand what life throws at it. In warmer climates, other models of air conditioning units can melt from the heat. Not this one. Built tough and built durable, this AC unit will last you through a good many adventures.

Installed white RecPro AC on RV roof.

  • Hand holding AC remote. The remote that is included with the model allows you to control the temperature and settings of the unit from the comfort of your couch. Are you worried that you'll lose it? We've thought of that, too. Along with the remote is a wall carrier for the remote. Simply place it in an easy to reach location and rest the remote in it. The digital display on the inner plenum unit of the air conditioner allows you to control it without the remote as well, just in case you really do lose the remote.
  • One of the best features of our Air Conditioner is the Dry Mode. Dry mode runs the fan at a higher speed, cycling more air through your rig and allowing moisture to collect on the coils before draining through to drain holes. Perfect for drying out hot, moist air!
  • The second amazing feature to pay attention to is the temperature monitoring system. If you like to leave the AC unit on while you sleep, you can often wake up to a freezing room. Because our bodies are naturally cooler when we sleep, leaving on the air conditioner can make your morning feel like ice. To prevent this, the air conditioning unit has a temperature monitoring system that senses the temperature of the surrounding air and adjusts to accommodate whatever temperature you've set it to, keeping you comfortable even through the night.
  • White RecPro AC installed on an Airstream RV.Most RV air conditioning units blow the air from the top unit through the space between them and out of the bottom unit without a tube to control the air. With the air moving around in the space between, it loses some of the temperature quality and cleanliness. With the directional tube in this model, the airflow is controlled to provide optimal temperature quality and cleanliness.
  • The low amp draw on this model enables it to not only keep your energy use lower than other models, but it allows you to use more than just the AC unit at one time. For other models that have a higher amp draw, you have to think about how many appliances are on that circuit, as the circuit breaker can only handle so much. With the low amp draw of this model, however, you have more room for other appliances. Saving you power and frustration, it's definitely the best model for energy efficiency.
  • Because of the directional air tube, the high-quality design, and the efficient cooling and temperature control system, this AC unit produces air that is of very high quality. Temperature and humidity-controlled for your desired environment, you can feel the difference with this model.
  • Our air conditioner uses an efficient heat pump to efficiently and effectively heat your air even at higher fan speeds, unlike other models that may use an inefficient heat strip.
  • Perhaps the most important feature of this air conditioning unit is the noise level. Many of the models that come with your RV are loud and a bit obnoxious. Even those that you replace it with can be loud enough for you to notice it. This model, however, only produces 59.1 decibels of sound when on high. For reference, that's about as loud as a gentle rain; not loud at all. With this low sound level, you can relax in your RV, have a conversation, or watch your movie, all without competing with the AC unit.

*This AC unit requires a minimum 2500-watt generator with a dedicated 30-amp service. Using a lower-rated generator may cause difficulty when starting the AC unit or may require a soft starter.*

*It is recommended to use a 3000-watt generator with a dedicated 30-amp service.*

Ducted Information

This Ducted 15K Air Conditioner measures 13-11/16" high by 26-3/4" wide by 39-5/16" long for the outside unit and 1-11/16" high by 21-1/8" wide by 21-15/16" long for the inner plenum ceiling assembly unit. It weighs about 80 pounds and can be installed with a recommended two people. In the ceiling assembly, there is a removable screen filter that can be cleaned and replaced. Just make sure that when you do replace it, the screen is dry. Available in both black and white, the unit looks great on any interior or exterior RV design on the market today. Worried about something going wrong? The control screen on the remote or thermostat will show an error code to let you know the problem. Just make sure you keep the manual to interpret this code to fix it. While the external features of this unit are great, the internal features are even better. Why only have cooling when you could have both heating and cooling? The heating and cooling capabilities of this RV AC unit allow you to install it and use it for year-round camping. Included with the unit are the remote control which serves as the wall thermostat to control the unit. Because the unit is designed for this specific thermostat, it will not work with other pre-existing thermostats. It will, however, work with already installed ducts. The unit, controlled by either the remote or the plenum unit, has multiple functions, including cooling, heating, fan (with multiple fan speeds), dry mode, auto, temperature display and controls, clock, timer, sleep, and lock. These functions help give you the most control over your environment, creating a more comfortable and relaxing place for you to spend your vacation. Also, keep in mind that while this unit is rated for rooms up to 875 square feet, this number also depends on the layout of your air ducts, as they can help to carry the air into a bigger area. Perhaps the most important features of this unit are the noise level, the power draw, and the size. One of the biggest concerns with RV air conditioning units is how much noise they make. Because of the ones that come straight off the lot, RV AC units get a bad rap for being loud and annoying. This model, however, only creates 59.1 decibels of noise inside on the high setting. For context, that's about as loud as a soft conversation. Compared to the louder decibel levels of other standard AC units, that's a big improvement! Now, you can listen to music, talk, or just chill without needing to yell to be heard over the cooling system. These older air conditioning units also get a bad rap for being power-suckers. They have a large power draw, which means that they take up quite a lot of energy. Due to this, they're not so great for boondocking or power outages. Even with power, they're not going to leave as much for your other appliances. This model, however, only has a max power draw of 16Amps, leaving more power for your other items. The startup amp draw is the same as the maximum amp draw - 16Amp. Finally, because RVs have a weight and size limit, the items you add can make a big difference. With the economic size of both the outer unit and the inner unit, you have more space on your roof and ceiling while not adding more than 100 pounds to your RV load. As a quick note, this unit is designed to be installed on a flat roof (less than 5 degrees inclination) that is between 3" and 5-1/2"" thick.

The fan on the heat pump is controlled through a temperature sensor near the evaporator coils. Unless this sensor reads temperatures below 64°F, the fan will run at a low speed. This is necessary to modulate power consumption and keep up efficiency.

Non-Ducted Information

Measuring 26 3/4" wide by 39 5/16" long by 13 11/16" high on the outside of your RV and 21 1/8" wide by 21 15/16" long by 1 11/16" high on the inside ceiling assembly. This AC unit can fit roofs up to a maximum of 5 1/2" thick. We have optional bolts available for roofs thicker than 5 1/2" thick, up to 7 3/32" thick. The air conditioner is non-ducted and comes in black and white. Attractive and durable, it runs off of 115V power. With this model, the sound level is much lower than many of the other air conditioners on the market and the quality of the temperature is better. If you've ever turned on your RV AC unit while you're watching your favorite show or talking to a friend, you understand how important the low sound level is. No one wants to have to fight over their air conditioner just to be heard. With the low decibel level of this unit (59.1, which is about the level of gentle rain or soft conversation), you won't have to fight to be heard above the unit. And when you're watching your movie or listening to your music, you'll only have the faint whirr of the AC unit in the background. In addition, the amperage (amps) on the model is lower than other air conditioners. While this might not mean a whole lot, it means that it draws less electricity, saving you power and money to use for other appliances or RV devices. With other models of RV AC units, you would have to be careful about whether you use your microwave or your air conditioner, due to the high amperage draw of the AC unit. This model, with its low power draw, lets you use both at the same time, saving power and giving you convenience. Plus, you don't need a start-up capacitor. These AC units also come with a remote for easy use. With this level of comfort and convenience, you won't need to even get up off the couch to keep your temperature at a comfortable level.

The fan on the heat pump is controlled through a temperature sensor near the evaporator coils. Unless this sensor reads temperatures below 64°F, the fan will run at a low speed. This is necessary to modulate power consumption and keep up efficiency.

*Fits roofs up to 5 1/2" thick*

*Optional bolts available for roofs greater than 5 5/8" thick, up to 7 3/32" thick*

Air conditioner features. High airflow of 375 CFM. Low amp draw. Durable plastic shroud. Easy to read LED display. Very quiet.Tips

While the air conditioner is powerful and efficient by itself, there are several things you can do to lessen energy use even further and keep your RV cooler. Close all the doors, skylights, and windows so that the cool air does not leave and hot air does not intrude into your space. Also, draw the curtains and open the shade or awning to keep the heat from the sun from warming up your RV. Cook outside of the RV when possible and park your RV in the shade if there is shade available. Turn off any unnecessary appliances to reduce the energy load. Adjust the temperature of the unit instead of turning the unit off to prevent frequent starting or stopping. Finally, in the case of very high temperatures, turn on the AC unit in advance during the morning.

There is yet another tip that many people already use. In an RV, having just an air conditioning unit is a good way to cool down but also a good way to mess up the humidity in your RV. Instead of only pushing air into your RV, you should also push it out with a roof vent fan. By placing a fan at one end of the RV and an RV AC unit at the other end, you create a flow of air that will even out the temperature and keep the air cleaner. Many people place the fan over their kitchen and the AC unit at the opposite end of their RV. This is because of the smells, heat, and humidity that can build up around the kitchen, with all of the cooking and food from that area. With your air flow set up in this way, your RV interior will feel cleaner and more comfortable.

Maintenance

There are also steps you can take to maintain the unit and lengthen its life. Though there are several important parts to the unit, the return air filter is the only part that needs regular maintenance. Clean and check the filter each week when in use to keep it clean from dirt, washing it in warm water and a little detergent frequently to ensure effective heating or cooling. Make sure it's dry before you replace it. You should also check that the bolts holding the unit on are still stable after the first three months. Throughout the life of the unit, these bolts should be checkers once a year. If you only use the unit on occasion, then the unit should be operated for 20-30 minutes every six months. This AC Unit comes with a preinstalled gasket.
