Between proper application and product quality, you will find that sweet spot where your floor stays in place for years after it is installed. Our adhesive (RP-128) is the perfect tool to make sure your floor covering secures completely to your substrate without any worries of separation. Our floor adhesive is specially formulated to defy the elements in the marine and outdoor environment. Even though there is a greater exposure to the elements in these places, our adhesive will live up to the hype. You, as the customer, just need to make sure that you install this properly.
To make sure your installation works correctly, here’s a short “how to” process:
(1) Extended painter’s pole
(3) Medium ‘nap’ (3/8” to 1/2") roller covers
(1) Paint roller (standard 9” W)
(1) Paint pan
(2) Plastic paint pan inserts
(1) Pail of RecPro flooring adhesive
(1) Broom and dustpan
First and foremost, make sure you are wearing the proper PPE (personal protection equipment) including long sleeve shirt, pants, eye protection, gloves, and a mask. Next (and most importantly) make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area.
Step One: Use the broom and dustpan to clean up your flooring area. If you have any sort of dirt or debris on the floor when you apply the adhesive, you will end up with a poor connection to your floor covering.
Step Two: Once thoroughly cleaned, pour a small amount of the adhesive into the pan with pan liner installed. Make sure it is by a doorway (you always want to be sure and start in a far corner and work backward toward a door, so you don’t paint yourself into a corner.)
Step Three: Assemble your roller, cover, and painter's stick and then (using the painter’s pan) thoroughly coat your roller cover.
Step Four: Starting at the far corner of the RV, room, trailer, etc., apply the adhesive in a complete and even layer on the floor where you intend to implement your covering.
Step Five: Make sure and do a section at a time so that you don’t have adhesive prematurely drying, and you’re not walking through adhesive trying to install coverings. Do allow a short amount of time to let the adhesive soak into the substrate.
Step Six: Repeat until the floor is covered.
Step Seven: Use a floor roller (or other like implement) and make sure you flatten out the floor so that there are no air pockets visible.
Step Eight: Let your floor cure for 24hrs. While it will be dry sooner than a 24hr, period, it’s best to let the adhesive take complete hold before beginning regular use of the space.
While there may be additional steps during your installation process (removal of furniture, cutting your covering to fit around fixtures, etc.), these instructions are meant to be a starting point for a primary application. Just remember to wear PPE, work in a well-ventilated area, and measure twice to cut once.
So, if you’re looking for a very high bonding adhesive for your floor, one that you know will last, then our RecPro flooring adhesive is the right product for you. Whether your environment is marine, RV, or your home.
*Whether applying to a carpet, diamond flooring, or other coverings be sure to apply while the adhesive is still “wet” *
