Winter Project Series #2: Installing/Replacing a Fuel Water Separator

January 07, 2016

Replacement Gas Filter/Water Separators for Mercury/MerCruiser Engines

For the second installment of RecreationPro’s Winter Project series, we’re featuring a couple tutorials that will help guide you through installing a fuel/water separator between the fuel tank and your boat motor. An inline fuel filter/water separator is one of the best ways to prevent fuel related problems with your outboard motor. Many boat manufacturers are installing them direct from the factory, especially in the last decade or so, but there are still many boats both old and new that are unequipped. If your boat does not have a fuel/water separator, installing one is relatively simple and makes a great winter project. If you already have one, remember that the filter should be replaced every 3-6 months or after 100 hours of run time.
