The Best Fridge for Your Rig

The Best Fridge for Your Rig

Choosing certain pieces of furniture and different accessories for your RV can be half the fun of owning one. One of the upgrades that may not always come to mind at first is a refrigerator. Maybe you’ve got an older model on your hands and you want a new, sleek fridge. Or, maybe you’re just looking for something better-suited to your needs.

Whatever the case, there are certain things you should keep in mind when choosing a refrigerator for your RV. Let’s take a look at some of the most important factors to consider, so when it comes time for you to make a change, you know what you’re looking for.

What’s the Right Size?

Obviously, one of the most important factors in choosing the right fridge for your rig is determining the size you need. Don’t assume that the standard model that came with your RV is necessarily the best option for your space. You may be able to go a little bigger, or you may decide that you want to get something smaller and maximize your space another way.

The solution for this factor is simple: Measure, and decide. Determine the amount of space you have, and the amount you’re willing to give up for a fridge. For some people, this will be more important than others, depending on your needs.

How Much Will it Hold?

There is a difference between the size of a fridge itself, and the capacity of food it can hold. If you regularly RV with a family of four, capacity can be a huge factor in determining the kind of refrigerator you want. If you’re more of a solo camper most of the time, you may be able to get away with using a smaller fridge that requires less capacity. The less capacity a fridge has, the less expensive it likely will be. So, take a look at how much storage you actually need before making a purchase.

What Will it Cost?

One of the biggest factors in choosing a new refrigerator unit is price. Once you’ve determined your needs and wants, checking out cost will be the next ‘hurdle.’ Don’t be afraid to set a firm budget and look for models that fit your needs in every aspect, including that price point.

For the most part, standard models can range anywhere from $1,000-$3,000. These prices will fluctuate based on extra features, storage space, power level, and more. If you’re on a strict budget, you don’t always have to choose a brand new model. There are plenty of used and discounted RV refrigerators available if you’re not afraid to do a little digging.

It’s easy to take something like a refrigerator for granted, especially on an RV. But, it’s just as important as almost any other piece of furniture or appliance. It’s an essential component when it comes to making a rig feel more like a home, and an RV kitchen feel more complete. It’s okay to treat yourself to a refrigerator you’ll be happy with in your home on wheels.
