365 RV: Fall Foliage Tours - East Coast Edition

Part of living the 365 RV lifestyle is realizing there's more to the RV season than just summer fun.  Fall foliage tours are all the rage, now.  Getting out and seeing the beautiful change of the season in the leaves is just what you need to keep your RV season alive!

Ultimate East Coast RV Fall Color Tour

Since we’ve covered a couple Midwestern states in our fall color tour series, it’s about time we hit the east coast! The eastern part of the country offers up some of the most scenic views and beautiful drives imaginable, especially as the leaves start to change.

While we could easily offer up piece after piece on the beautiful colors in each state, let this general ‘east coast guide’ be your go-to reference for your autumn road trip. We encourage you to load up your RV and hit as many of these spots as possible over the next several weeks.

Adirondack Park - New York

The first thing that comes to most people’s mind when they think of New York is New York City. But, the state offers far more than just busy streets and fold-able pizza. Head to the Adirondack Park in upstate New York for 6 million acres of beauty.

This park features everything from vast woodlands and rolling meadows to small country villages and cozy campgrounds. A state law put in place in the 1800s forever protects this land, preserving the wilderness for visitors to enjoy for centuries. The seasonal changes can be dramatically-beautiful here, but peak color season in the fall tends to occur throughout the month of October.

Green Mountain Byway - Vermont

Vermont is often touted as one of the best places in the country to admire the richness of autumn and all its colors. But, one of the best areas in the state to do so will also allow you to feel as though you’ve taken a step back in time.

The Green Mountain Byway will greet you with mile after mile of pleasantries. One moment you’ll be rolling through fields of cattle. The next, you’ll find yourself in a quaint and cozy town with old general stores and friendly locals.

This area is so popular in the fall that local hotels and inns book up quickly! Make sure to make your reservation at a nearby campground to enjoy the splendor in the comfort of your RV. The colors really begin to reach their peak in late-September through October.

The Kennebunks - Maine

“The Kennebunks” is an adopted name for several area towns in this popular Maine vacation spot. It includes Kennebunk, Cape Porpoise, Arundel, and Kennebunkport. There’s so much to do in this area at any time of year, but it’s especially beautiful during the fall.

The way the bold and bright colors of the trees contrast with the still blue Atlantic Ocean seems to make the autumn foliage pop even more. You can take full advantage of the colors by booking a bird-watching tour in the area at one of the local wildlife reserves.

This area is great for family vacations. It combines history, nature, and learning events, so everyone gets to enjoy something different! Colors are most vibrant throughout the month of October.

Chances are, you’re not going to go wrong with an east coast road trip this fall. No matter where you go, you’ll see gorgeous color and unique tourist attractions. Use the suggestions on this list to get you started with your fall foliage tour - and don’t forget to snap some photos!
